Go Bold or Go Home!
Okay, so you’ve searched the entire internet for ideas on decorating your space. Most of the articles you read gave you watered down advice or told you to play it safe. But you’re wild. You’re free. You don’t take crap from anyone. So why would you limit yourself to polite pastel palettes? Simple answer...you wouldn’t!
It is true that too many intense colors can shrink the perceived size of your place, so it’s always a good idea to balance it out. Don’t let that stop you from being bold, beautiful you! Here are a few tips to decorating bold:
Let the design of your rug be your guide!
Unless you choose a totally solid rug, the accent colors within the rug design can serve as great inspiration for decorating the room with furniture, art, and accessories. This will ensure that the colors complement the space, and won’t clash with the rest of the room.
Commit to a theme. Choose color palettes that flow.
A well rounded palette of colors will flow organically throughout your home. The last thing you want is a disorienting patchwork of completely opposite looks in every room. You wouldn’t want a jewel tone living room, and then pastels in the hallway. Weird! The only exception would be if there are pastel accent colors incorporated into the rug or furniture, but it’s always best to know the rules before you choose to break them.
Don’t feel pressured to saturate the room with one color.
We get it, you picked that bright and bold color because you love it! We support you! But sometimes it’s better to let your bold colors be accessories to the space, instead of a focal point. If you choose a bold rug for your living room, find some matching accent pillows, a lamp, or even some wall art that incorporates the same color(s). You don’t want to overdo it.
Happy rug hunting!
