Colors and How They Affect Your Mood
The decorating choices you make are reflection of your personality, but also have a direct affect on your mood. Ultimately, no article or psycho-babble about color should have so much of an impact on you that you don’t incorporate YOUR favorite colors. We're all about individuality and choosing what is best for you. So, taken with a grain of salt, here is a loose guide on the how to choose carpet colors based on their affect on your mood.
RED
Red is the color of passion and intensity. It makes your heart beat faster, and inspires conversation. A room decorated in red, or with prominent red accents, will bring energy to the space. Red is great for common areas, as it can strike up a feeling of excitement, but it may be too intense for a restful space, such as a library or bedroom.
ORANGE
Orange can be tricky to incorporate into a space without being overwhelming. But it’s a great choice if yellow is a bit too cheery and red is too intense. It’s not for the faint of heart as it can evoke action. It’s certainly perkier than most palettes. It’s different. It’s edgy. And if you make sure to balance it with complementing colors, you’ll be surprised with the energy and lightness it can bring to a room.
YELLOW
Yellow is disarming color that can brighten up any room. It’s a color commonly associated with joy and expansiveness. Done right (meaning, not overdone) it can bring positive energy, especially to common areas like kitchens, bathrooms, or even an office. However, decorating with yellow can be tricky. Read these tips to learn how to do it in a way that doesn’t overwhelm the space with nauseating levels of rainbows and sunshine.
GREEN
Green often gets a bad rap for being associated with jealousy. But on the contrary, green is one of the most natural colors to incorporate in a living space or bedroom. It’s easy on the eyes, and it’s a jewel tone so it matches with a variety of other colors. Depending on the shade, it can enliven, or relax the feel of a room.
BLUE
Blue has a calming affect on the senses in most shades, but overdone it can be a bit...chilly. Blue is the go-to for many different rooms in the house. It works in the bedroom. It works in the living room. It works in the bathroom. In a room with little natural light, it can open up the space. The trick with blue is to balance the warmth of the room with the right blue. If your floors are wood, find a shade of blue that complements the palette. Too much dark blue can be sad, so it’s best to use it as an accent color.
PURPLE
Purple is royalty. It is sophisticated. In it’s deepest tones, it can make a room feel more rich and luxurious, and in softer shades like lilac, it has a similar effect as blue, relaxing and calming the energy of the room. Either way, it’s gorgeous.
